If you are finding your geofence is triggering when you are home or there is a substantial delay in your geofence triggering a scene, we suggest you increase the size of your geofence radius to compensate for this. It seems there are some differences on how some mobile devices handle their GPS locations with other apps on that device therefore your experience with a geofence can be different depending on the device and service you use.
We suggest using a minimum radius of 150m but if you are experiencing your geofence triggering when you are inside your fence, or delays in scenes triggering when entering or leaving, we suggest you take it to 300m or more. This will give your control system time to get the signal that you have entered or left your geofence. It is pretty easy to do this.
If you would like to see how big your fence is now become, hit the "Back" (Top Left) after saving and you can see the map and how big your fence now is in relation to the roads near your home. If you would like to turn on of off notifications when entering and leaving your fence, check the "Notify" box. Make sure the "This is my home" box is checked if you would like mode changes based on actions with this geofence.

Ever wanted to automatically close your garage door or lock your doors or turn off your water or make sure all your lights are turned off when you leave your home? How about automatically turning on your driveway lights or disarming your alarm or turning up the heater when you arrive, again all automatically and you don't even have to pick up your mobile phone. Well this can all easily be done and very inexpensively I might add. In fact, if you already have a Vera controller and your devices already installed, it is totally free. The technology is called Geofencing and we tell you how to trigger scenes with your Vera using this technology. You will need the "House Modes Plug-in" as described in this video. If you are not sure how to set up a Geofence, don't worry. We have a complete step by step video here. Want to know how to automatically arm your alarm by driving down your driveway? In this instructional video, we show what a geofence is and how to set it up on your Vera Home Automation and Control System. After setting up your own geofence, your home will automatically do things like turn of the lights, lock the doors and arm the alarm automatically when you leave your home and do the opposite when you come home. If you are interested in getting a Vera home control / automation system for yourself, you can find them here. These controllers start at less than 100 dollars. |
