So I have my own lights that work really well. So do I put the relay at the switch and it senses power draw to let you know that it has gone off or do you put it at the light

The relay needs 110vac from the motion to trigger. It in turn sends power (110vac) to the lights.

I have my motion detection light wire directly to power, no switch. do you have instructions to connect the Z-Wave Relay Interface this way

@Bill. You would connect our Z-Wave version motion light as you would any other motion light. Just connect the lights hot and common wires to your wires and you are done.

Let me get this straight, if there is motion detected, there will be a trigger/notification to the zwave controller? And based on any rule, we can turn off/on the lights (even without motion)?

How is this possible with just a relay module? Where is the input triggered?

What are the wiring requirements?

The motions are designed to work with your normal 2 conductor wiring (1 hot, 1 neutral) from the switch to the lights. The switch has to be on for the light and relay to work normally. If you have an additional conductor from the switch to the light you can do more like install the relay in the switch box and use the light switch to turn the light on and off directly.

If I want to purchase the relay module only and add it to my existing motion flood light, how do I wire it at the light fixture and not the switch? Do I need to access the wires from the motion sensor to do this? Otherwise, there isn't enough wires in the fixture.

Ok so I have got a question. I have a standard outdoor temp rated garage flood lights fixture installed with 2 bulb holders and a 3rd hole placeholder to add motion, timer or other such add-ons.

Yes we have motion detectors that have Z-Wave capabilities. They are intended for indoor use but have heard of others using the outdoors in dry locations.

In addition to the motion sensor, Can the light be activated from my z wave controller directly? Meaning, If I wanted to turn this light on from my Wink app, can I do that?

In your video, you mention a lifetime of 2-5 years. Is that correct, and what limits the lifetime? 2-5 years seems short for a "permanent" outdoor lighting fixture that requires some effort to replace. Thanks.

Can we buy just the motion detector assembly without the floodlight sockets & hoods, and round wallbox plate?

Yes we sell a motion sensor and the Z-Wave interface relay in a kit also. This kit is great for outdoor lighting in your yards and it will interface with your Z-Wave system for security.

This kit may be just what I need. But do you have a document that I could review which illustrates how to wire this together to ensure what I'm thinking of will work? Thank you.

I'm looking for a solution that will both turn the lights on, notify me, perhaps trigger a video camera to record, and maybe trigger other lights to turn on or an alarm to sound, etc.

Hi, was wondering if the relay can overide the motion sensor and keep the lights off durring certain times of day or if we want them to stay off for star gazing etc.

I have solar security lights activated by motion... would it be possible to use your relay in this case or does it have to be wired?

Question. I have looked at the wiring for the Z-wave relays into my current flood lights, but I am not seeing how the controller would be able to active my lights. I assume i would have to make use of the red out from the motion detector. I have a hot that goes to the hot for the motion detector and a neutral to the neutral of the motion detector. How does the red out from the motion detector get wired in so that the lights come on when either a) motion is triggered b) i want the zwave to manually turn on my lights.

Great work! Using this same logic, I could turn a few outdoor-grade motion sensors into Z-Wave relays and cover my property with true 360-degrees motion detection coverage. Tie it in through my Wink hub and use a motion detected event to trigger all of my outdoor lights to illuminate at the same time. I've already got nice outdoor light fixtures that I've turned into smart home products using GE wall switches that connect to the Wink hub, so I'm hoping to add motion detection capabilities without swapping all of my fixtures. Of course, I lose the benefit of already having the 110vac pre-wired if I venture away from the light fixtures.

Which motion detectors are you using? I've tried both of the relays that you sell with the motion detectors that I already have, and a new one that I bought, both are the "raintight" brand.

Yes some motion detectors sold on the market today do not work with our relays for various reasons. This is why we do sell a kit for this purpose.
